Billy Sorrese here over at White Water Marine, just wanted to share a pretty interesting story. Its so easy as someone who fishes and sells primarily fish boats to talk to someone about all the common fish stories we have. The one that got away, the secret spots, the best approach to certain species, but its not always about fishing for people and the more I understand this the more I can pin point the needs of all my clients. To be honest, thats what we all try to do here at White Water Marine. Its something I try to pass on to everyone, a simple question. “What will you do with the boat?”. The answer more often then not has little or nothing to do with fishing.

I met a really nice couple a few months ago, one of the reasons why they wanted our 23 Sportsman Center Console was for the purpose of photography. “Photography?” I thought, “thats a first”, I mean we all occasionally take out our phone and snap a picture of our big catch or the sun rise, but other then that, what else is there. At least thats what i thought.  After getting to know them more, I managed to understand the love they both had for a hobby where you pretty much need a boat for. Back bay, shallow draft, great ride, quit engine. All the things that would make perfect sense when trying to approach seals who are sunning themselves or nesting birds along the marsh, or that whale who you are waiting to see come up again for a breath or maybe show you its tail (if you are patient and lucky). Few days ago I received a text from them with a link, “Hey we love the boat, check out these pics we took while using the boat”. I was amazed at what i saw, wildlife you wouldn’t even think are on Long Island, or at least a short boat ride away. Seeing a long Island boater using the boat for something that most of us just buzz by while heading to the fishing grounds, or never bother looking around when “having” to get to that restaurant on the water before it closes. I guess the moral of the story is we can all use our boats for various reasons, one just as good as the next.  But we could all be like Jackie (www.jacquelinetaffe.com) once in a while, pull the throttles back and enjoy what Long Island has to offer.

Cover and below are just some of those things we should all just stop and appreciate. Jackie does.
